COGTA Ministry heeds to call to action Mandela Day

The Ministry for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) heeded call of action in honor of the life of former President Nelson Mandela. COGTA Minister, honourable Des van Rooyen and Deputy Minister Andries Nel dedicated the whole day assisting others in Ventersdorp, Bokone Bophirima. 

Both the Minister and the Deputy Minister accompanied by other leaders of the Province and the municipality begun by paying homage to those who dedicated their lives for our freedom, JB Marks. The leadership joined hands to cleaning the memorial site of JB Marks and also laying a wreath.  

In addition, the leadership also paid homage to KB Mashi, the first Mayor of Ventersdorp who was assassinated just after the dawn of democracy. 

The next leg of the programme was a visit to the Mogomotsi family which is a Child headed household. This leadership contributed to painting, refurbishing the house and donating clothes. This good gesture shown to this family will definitely go a long way in ensuring that they have food on the table and can have clothes like other children.

The next part of the programme was a visit to the Thusong Service Centre. The visit to this Centre has great significance as this will assist to ensure that it is able to continue providing services to the people. This Centre hosts a clinic which assist communities. The leadership took part in the work to paint the center, clean and assisting with the renovations.

“We are proud and honoured to having been part of this day's activities and thus embracing  the values that former President taught us", said Minister van Rooyen. These values include democracy, freedom, equality, diversity, reconciliation, and respect.

Minister van Rooyen commended the hard work of all volunteers and the team of community works programme (CWP) for their dedication to assisting with the cleaning, painting and renovations. "Your commitment to assisting those who are in need will go a long way to building a South Africa we are proud of as envisaged by the National Development Plan", said Minister van Rooyen.

The Minister urged all communities to make everyday a Mandela day.
