Cooperative Governance convenes seminar to mark International Day for Disaster Reduction, 13 Oct

Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) convenes a seminar to mark the International Day for Disaster Reduction

The Ministry for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) will mark the International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR) on 13 October 2016, through a seminar to be held at Birchwood Hotel, Boksburg. This day (IDDR) begun in 1989 after a call by the United Nations General Assembly to promote a global culture of risk awareness and disaster reduction.

Celebrated annually, this day celebrates how people and communities around the world are reducing their exposure to disasters and raising awareness about the importance of reigning in the risks that they face.

Since South Africa is not immune to disasters and their impact of various proportions, this seminar will go a long way in planning ahead, responding and reducing disasters in our country.

It will further encourage dialogue amongst stakeholders and role-players, including experts who will each as part of the day’s programme, address different themes in their area of expertise. This seminar will go a long way in providing solutions to address challenges caused by disasters.
