Citizens of Bokone Bophirima celebrate a life well lived
Yesterday was a momentous and moving day as thousands of people gathered at Molelema Village in Taung to celebrate the life and legacy of MEC Kgakgamatso Nkewu.
The memorial service brought together citizens of the Bokone Bophirima Province from all walks of life and united us in mourning and celebration with friends and partners of the African National Congress. The members of the African National Congress together with its alliance partners in the North West Province came out in numbers to celebrate a life well lived of the late MEC for Social Development, Comrade Kgakgamatso Nkewu.
Amongst the people in attendance was Mr Obed Bapela, an ANC NEC member deployed in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District, Minister of Communication Faith Muthambi and Manketsi Tlhape the MEC for Rural Environment and Agricultural Developmnent.
“The loss the Province is experiencing is a loss to all of humanity and it was therefore appropriate that we reached out to one another in this way to pay tribute to an unrivalled human being, patriot and leader as MEC Nkewu served the ANC selflessly on various platforms, from the tenure of the ANC YL and ANC Branch leadership which sharpened her to rise to the occasion of being elected in the collective of the PEC to serve as the Provincial Treasure as well as the Deputy Chairperson of the ANC WL to date.”
Explains Mr Dakota Legoete the ANC Provincial Secretary in the North West.
It was therefore natural for us yesterday to commute between sorrow and celebration, because Nkewu represented so many things to so many people, based on a core set of values that set an example to all of us. This statement was certified by the ANC YL Chairpeson of the Bokone Bophirima Provice Sipho Dial when he said: “he appreciated the constructive criticism that Cde Kgakgamatso employed when he would propose the ideas of the YL before the officials of the ANC.
She would address me as her son and show me how I can do my best and produce quality work with limited resources” he continued to emphasise the positive contribution the MEC had in shaping the man he is today, “a leader in his own right”.
The ANC WL Chairperson in the Province, Fetsang Mokati-Thebe, further appreciated the contribution and activism of Kgakgamatso in all structures of the ANC, and the bold step she took in ensuring that her contribution benefitted the communities she served. It is true what we have already alluded to above, MEC Kgakgamatso Nkewu was a true inspiration to the hard work that the ANC and its deployees in government have put to better the lives of its people.
Her hard work touched, influenced and changed the lives of thousands of citizens of Bokone Bophirima and today we have gathered here as we dip our revolutionary banner in her honour and express our fond love for her and admiration of her work as a Public Representative.
