Budget to help deliver rebranding, repositioning and renewal initiatives - Mahumapelo maintains
The role of Office of the Premier in spearheading the Rebranding, Repositioning and Renewal of Bokone-Bophirima is more urgent than ever before, this in the wake of the Provincial Government striving towards a 6% economic growth rate with intermittent adjustments by 2019.
According to Premier Mahumapelo, this target continues to serve as a useful means to stretch the determination and dedication of the Provincial Government in improving the lives of our people.
Premier Mahumapelo said this today, Thursday 5 May, while tabling Office of the Premier budget vote speech for 2016/17 financial year at the North West Provincial Legislature.
Tabling a total budget of R 492.243 million for approval by the Provincial Legislature, Premier Mahumapelo said central to his Office’s plans for the current financial year is the relentless efforts to anchor everything the Provincial Government does on the foundation laid out in the National Development Plan (NDP), and mobilisation of all sections of society to claim a stake in the construction of a new rebranded, repositioned and renewed Province.
In a bid to improve the capability of the Provincial Administration to deliver services to the people, in the context of Rebranding, Repositioning and Renewal of the Province, Premier Mahumapelo announced the following:
- Establishment of the North West Economic Development and Labour Council (NWEDLAC) and announcement of its new members in the next 30 days. The establishment of this important structure will assist in the coordination of collaborative efforts between Government, organised business, labour, academia and civil society as part of Saamtrek-Saamwerk philosophy.
- Migration of the North West Development Corporation (NWDC) to the Office of the Premier as part of its rebranding, repositioning and renewal.
- Relocation of some of the Provincial entities under the umbrella of a rebranded NWDC to position Bokone-Bophirima better in tackling challenges of growing the economy.
Premier Mahumapelo told the Provincial Legislature that this budget will enable the Office of the Premier to play its strategic role to coordinate and lead the Rebranding, Repositioning and Renewal of Bokone-Bophirima through the five concretes, Agriculture, Culture & Tourism, Villages, Townships and Small Dorpies, Reconciliation, Healing and Renewal, Setsokotsane and Saamtrek-Saamwerk.
