BRICS could become a beacon of hope to the world – Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour says
The BRICS partnership has the potential to become a powerful force that brings hope to the world for millions of people seeking a better life through the creation of a productive ecosystem, delegates at the Second Employment Working Group heard on Wednesday.
Ms Boitumelo Moloi, Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour, was addressing delegates at the meeting of BRICS member states from: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa in Port Alfred, Eastern Cape.
“To achieve this, we must intensify our collaborative efforts in multi-lateral forums such as G20 and the ILO (International Labour Organisation),” she said.
Ms Moloi said it was important to ensure that the benefits of economic growth and Decent Work are distributed more equally among disadvantaged groups.
“Our proposal for a BRICS-wide Productivity Ecosystem for Decent Work is a major step in solidifying our Partnership in the sphere of labour and employment. I am pleased to share that the suggestion has overwhelming support from the BRICS Member Countries.
“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the BRICS Member Countries for their unwavering commitment to upholding the values that we share as a global community.
Your dedication to promoting cooperation, mutual respect, and understanding is an inspiration to us all,” she said.
Ms Moloi added that “by espousing these values, we have the potential to create a more just and equitable world. You have shown that it is possible to work together to achieve common goals, even in the face of adversity and challenges”.
Mr Thobile Lamati, Director-General at the Department of Employment and Labour, said: “BRICS has not used its power in the ILO to increase cooperation among the member states. We should consider the potential embedded in our collective strengthened for the benefit of our economies.”
