Bokone Bophirima post EXCO media release
The Bokone Bophirima Executive Council, which meets every month, convened its first meeting of 2016 on Wednesday 20 January at Tlokwe Local Municipality and after receiving reports and interrogating them, took decisive decisions on the following issues:
Provincial Expenditure Trends
The consolidated preliminary aggregate spending of the province as at the end of the third quarter stands at 74,30 percent and the preliminary conditional grant spending during the same period stands at 75,52 percent. This represents a slight improvement compared to 74, 14 percent and 73, 94 percent in the aggregate and conditional grant spending respectively during the same period in the 2014/15 financial year.
The Executive Council commended the expenditure trend and cautioned that as we approach spending in the last quarter of the financial year commitments made should be honoured.
The Executive Council also endorsed a briefing from a national meeting of the Presidency and Finance Ministry which calls for reprioritisation of budgets and spending in smarter ways including prudent spending on core functions.
This is in line with the current global economic meltdown from which South Africa is no exception.
2016 State of the Province Address
The 2016 State of the Province Address is scheduled to take place on 26 February 2016 in Matlosana and preparations are on course. The bulk of the address will focus on economic issues and citizens of Bokone Bophirima are urged to make inputs to the address through social media platforms created by the Office of the Premier.
Resignation of Ms Tebogo Modise
EXCO confirms that Ms Tebogo Modise resigned as MEC for Culture, Arts and Traditional Affairs (CATA) Department and that she assumed a new responsibility as the Mayor of Ratlou Local Municipality. Premier Mahumapelo wished her well in her new role and expressed confidence that with the wealth of experience she gained from the provincial government, she will play a pivotal role in taking service delivery to a higher level at Ratlou Local Municipality.
The EXCO now has two vacancies and MEC Manketsi Tlhape has been appointed to act as the CATA MEC.
The much speculated reshuffle of the provincial cabinet will not take place until the ruling party has made a determination and has duly mandated the head of government in the province to execute it.
The EXCO will therefore continue to work together as a collective in ensuring that the 5 concretes which underpin the tenure of the 5th administration are rolled out across the length and breadth of Bokone Bophirima..
Rationalisation of schools
In view of concerns raised by parents on lack of consultation in some of the rationalised schools in the province, EXCO has resolved that the department of Education and Sport Development will, in a special EXCO meeting, make a detailed presentation on all rationalised schools reflecting the current status and whether due consultation with communities was undertaken.
