Basic Education visits West Rand and Cape Town Schools, 14 Jan

Ministry of Basic Education continue with school visit in West Rand and Cape Town to welcomes 2016 academic calender

The Minister and Deputy Minister of Basic Education will continue the school visits by visiting schools in West Rand and Cape Town on Thursday 14 January 2016.  Headlined by the Departments’ flagship ‘’Read to Lead’’ Campaign, the Basic Education Ministry aims to encourage learners and communities to entrench the culture of reading from the first day of school.

The Department of Basic Education assesses readiness of schools in the beginning of every school year in order to advance any form of assistance early on in the year. It is also expected that the Minister and Deputy Minister will meet with education stakeholders including district officials and school principals. The visits will also focus amongst others on adherence to teaching and learning from the 1st day of school, encourage school management teams to minimize disruptions and appeal to communities to refrain from using schools as bargaining tools during protests and other civil actions as this negatively affects the education system.

With a dual calendar in place for 2016, all schools across the country, both inland and coastal will open their doors of learning from tomorrow, 13 January 2016.
