Deputy Minister of Telecommunications & Postal Services to conduct a post SoNA Information Seminar and Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) Awareness Outreach Programme
Telecommunications and Postal Services Deputy Minister, Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams will, on Saturday, 8 April 2017, conduct a post SoNA information seminar and Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) awareness outreach in Flagstaff, Ingquza Hill Local M Municipality.
The Deputy Minister will further conduct a state of readiness visit at the SENTECH transmitter site in Ngqwabeni, being one of the four newly established DTT sites across the country. The other three sites are located in Burgersfort (Limpopo), Harrismith (Free State) and Ngqeleni (Eastern Cape).
DTT is a crucial government programme which is geared at migrating South Africans from analogue to digital television and radio.
The DTT process promises:
- more channels (also broadcasting in indigenous languages) and more programmes such as sports, education, health, children, parliamentary, entertainment, music, etc;
- access to all free-to-air channels of quality picture and clearer sound for all citizens, irrespective of their geographical location, race and economic status;
- an on-screen Electronic Programming Guide with programme synopsis;
- parental guidance and control of programmes and
- services for the hard of hearing and visually impaired (through subtitles and large scripts).
A key component of this programme is the community engagement which will take course as part of the post-SoNA information seminars. Conducted on the heels of the President’s State of the Nation Address, post-SONA information seminars enable government to engage with South Africans in every corner of the country and reflect on service delivery, plans, milestones and challenges faced by communities.
Members of the media are hereby invited to the above-mentioned outreach programme which will take place as follows:
Date: Saturday, 8 April 2017
Time: 9h00 – 15h00
