High level panel public hearings: The assessment of key legislation and acceleration of fundamental change
An independent High Level Panel to assess key legislation passed by Parliament since 1994 will this week conduct its first Public Hearings in the Eastern Cape Province. The 17 member Panel, chaired by former President Mr Kgalema Motlanthe, which was appointed in January this year by the Speakers Forum will include the following panellists:
- Mr Tito Mboweni, Former Reserve Bank Governor
- Ms Bridgette Mabandla, Former Cabinet Minister
- Judge Navi Pillay, Former United Nations Human Rights Commissioner
- Dr Terence Nombembe, Former Auditor General
- Prof Eddy Maloka, CEO of the African Peer Review Mechanism amongst others.
The High Level Panel on the Assessment of Key Legislation and the Acceleration of Fundamental Change will conduct its work through three committees namely, Committee on Tripartite Challenges of Inequality, Poverty and Unemployment, Committee on Land Reform and Committee on Social Cohesions and Nation-Building.
Members of the public are invited to make inputs on three focus areas namely: The review of legislation; assessment on the implementation of legislation; identifying gaps in legislation as well as proposing action steps that impact on specific areas of legislation. The Public Hearings will take place as follows:
Date: Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 August
Time: 9h00 to 17h00 (Tuesday and Wednesday)
Venue: Abbotsford Christian Centre, 28 Wyse Avenue Abbotsford, East London
