Arts and Culture, African Independent and Press Club SA to host a colloquium on Politics, Culture and the New African in Soweto, 30 May

As the Africa Month concludes, Minister Nathi Mthethwa invites members of the media to a colloquium on Politics, Culture and the New African in Soweto Theatre, today on Monday, 30 May 2016. The event is hosted by the DAC in partnership with the Independent and Press Club SA. Minister Mthethwa will deliver a keynote address and the guest speaker of honour is Prof Wole Soyinka, a Nigerian world-renowned Author, Poet and Nobel Literature Laureate.

The Department of Arts and Culture has hosted a series of colloquia as part of the Africa Month intensive programme that took place throughout the month of May under the theme, “Building a Better Africa and a Better World.”

The Month of May marks Africa Month to celebrate the founding of the Organisation of African Unity on 25 May 1963, it was on this date that the 25 May was declared as Africa Day as a symbol of unity amongst all Africans.  Africa Month also acknowledges the progress that we, as Africans, have made in the continent in addressing collectively the challenges that we face such as armed conflict, climate change, and poverty.    

Termed the Festival of Ideas, the Africa Month programme featured all aspects of arts, culture and heritage aimed at strengthening the socio, cultural, economic and political relations amongst African nations.
