Appointment of Inter-Ministerial Committee on the 21st International AIDS Conference

President Jacob Zuma has appointed an Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) on the 21st International AIDS Conference.

South Africa will host the conference from 18 to 22 July 2016 in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal and it will be an opportunity to mark progress made in fighting the AIDS epidemic.

The IMC will therefore ensure the planning and success of this momentous occasion.

The IMC members comprise the following:

  • Minister in The Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Mr Jeff Radebe - Chairperson
  • Minister in The Presidency for Women, Ms Susan Shabangu
  • Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr Nathi Mthethwa
  • Minister of Tourism, Mr Derek Hanekom
  • Minister of Communications, Ms Faith Muthambi
  • Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr David Van Rooyen
  • Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Ms Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula
  • Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi
  • Minister of Home Affairs, Mr Malusi Gigaba
  • Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ms Maite Nkoana-Mashabane
  • Minister of Police, Mr Nathi Nhleko
  • Minister of Public Works, Mr Thulas Nxesi
  • Minister of Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini
  • Minister of Sports and Recreation, Mr Fikile Mbalula
  • Minister of State Security, Mr David Mahlobo
  • Minister of Transport, Ms Dipuo Peters
  • Premier of KwaZulu- Natal, Mr Senzo Mchunu
  • Executive Mayor of eThekwini, Councillor James Nxumalo

Government will in the coming weeks make further announcements about the conference, especially plans to have the civil society take centre stage in the planning and execution of this conference.
