Finalisation of the appointment of Director General of the department
The process of appointing the Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services’ new Director General has been finalised through the appointment of Mr Robert Nkuna.
He will assume his duties on Monday, 21 November 2016. Minister Dr Siyabonga Cwele welcomes the appointment as it contributes to stabilising the department and allowing for more focus on delivering services to the people.
Minister Cwele has stated that there is a need to have a stable department that is able to coordinate and mobilise the collective resources of all to ensure we enable the sector to contribute to meaningful socio-economic inclusion. The sector has an important role to play in transforming and modernising our society.
He said the department has to ensure that modern communications infrastructure, tools and services are accessible to all citizens and that people are empowered to use the internet to communicate and transact.
Reflecting on his appointment, Mr Nkuna said; “My immediate task as DG is to introduce systems that would enable the department to implement its mandate efficiently and effectively. This includes taking all stakeholders along with us as we mitigate the competing interests to achieve optimal public policy goals”.
