Limpopo Education on 2017 admission in public schools

Admission in public schools for 2017 gets finalised

The right to basic education and of equal access to educational institution is not only enshrined in the Constitution but has been taken forward in the South African Schools Act (1996) as amended and the Northern Province School Education Act No. 9 of 1995, Gazette No.1937 of October 1998.

It is in this regard that the department started with registration of learners for 2017 education year in mid-2016. Registration for beginners and those changing schools (Grade R – 12) ended up in July 2016. All parents and guardians have been advised to apply in schools where they stay as per the admission policy. This is also for the benefit of the learners who otherwise will have to share learning time with that of other logistics such as long distance travelling.

The department is currently in the process of informing applicants as to whether they have been accepted or not at the schools that they applied for 2017 admission.  Letters are issued to those admitted and those not admitted.

All unsuccessful applications will be sent to Circuit Offices for placements to other schools where space is still available and closer to applicants’ residential areas. Parents and guardians are requested to forward their queries to their nearest Circuit offices as there will be no wholesale placements in January 2017.

The department likes to request all parents to make sure children are registered for administration before the end of September 2016 to avoid the inconveniences at the beginning of the year. January 2017 is dedicated for the beginning of learning and teaching and it will not be used for admission. Only Special Admission cases will be dealt with in January 2017 and each will be treated on its merit.
