Statement by Acting Premier, MEC Lebogang Maile on the launch of the Gauteng Provincial Government Jobs Fair
On the eve of the 47th anniversary of the June 16 uprising, the Executive Council of the Gauteng Provincial Government carries a profound sense of purpose, knowing that our actions today can make a real difference. With brimming anticipation, we are on the verge of another significant milestone-the launch of the Jobs Fair Campaign, which holds great promise for our province.
The Jobs Fair Campaign is driven by our deep-seated desire to create tangible pathways that lead to meaningful job opportunities, empowering individuals to unlock their full potential and contribute to the prosperity of our province.
As we embark on this strategic recruitment drive, we are reminded of the historical struggles faced by our youth, who, even today, continue to bear the weight of unemployment.
The reality of unemployment weighs heavily on our province, hindering progress and holding back the potential of our talented young minds. We cannot turn a blind eye to this burden any longer. We understand that now is the time for action, for real solutions that empower our people and propel our economy forward.
That is why, during this Youth Month, all provincial departments and entities have come together to identify vacant and funded positions, intensifying our efforts to raise awareness about the job openings available to our province's motivated and skilled individuals.
We have prioritised both skilled positions, including mid and senior-level management roles, and entry-level positions that do not require experience. Thousands of jobs spanning diverse fields await, including roles as drivers, receptionists, cleaners, artisans, construction managers, communication officers, health practitioners, agricultural advisors, engineers, and chief financial officers.
We have planned to advertise over 8,000 vacant positions across all departments and agencies. These vacant and funded positions will go live on 16 June and close on 14 July 2023. This is the first batch of these vacancies. We will be advertising more positions in phases until every position is filled.
This comprehensive recruitment drive is about more than just addressing unemployment. It is about strengthening our state's capacity, which, in turn, will result in improved service delivery for our residents. By expanding our workforce, the Gauteng Provincial Government aims to meet our communities' diverse needs better.
To ensure a successful engagement between job seekers and potential employers, we are deploying all Members of the Executive Council (MECs), Human Resource Officials, and Data Captures, who will be wearing identifiable clothing at 22 walk-in centres across the Gauteng City Region. Their presence will create an interactive environment that equips attendees with the knowledge needed to access these job opportunities effectively.
These walk-in centres will be ready to welcome the public from 8:00 am until 16:00.
Furthermore, we have collaborated with the Department of Employment and Labour to provide an additional 22 centres, along with our libraries in the province which are equipped with computers and free internet connectivity. These centres and resources will be invaluable in supporting job seekers throughout their application process.
These libraries and labour centres will open their doors to extend a helping hand, throughout the entire application period. These welcoming spaces are here to ensure that no one is left behind, offering personalised assistance to make the application process as smooth and successful as possible.
We encourage everyone interested to visit the designated walk-in centres, which will be powered with personnel, equipped with computers, booklets and free Wi-Fi. Job seekers are also reminded to bring their CVs and download and print the Z83 forms to ease the application process.
At the walk-in centres, tables representing various departments will be marked, and our dedicated staff will be there to guide applicants in the following steps:
- Step 1: Approach the table of the department you are interested in applying to.
- Step 2: Complete the Z83 form and submit it, along with your CV (stapled together), at the relevant department's table. If you already have an online profile, we will provide you with a laptop to apply.
- Step 3: Your CV and Z83 form will be stamped by the department as proof of submission. You will receive confirmation of submission, and if you wish, you may take a picture of the stamped form.
- Step 4: Drop your stamped CV and completed Z83 form into the designated box (uniform across all sites).
All applications will be captured, and reference numbers will be generated for each application.
We encourage people to apply in the comfort of their homes through the Gauteng Jobs Portals. The portals, accessible at https://professionaljobcentre.gpg.gov.za/, https://gpgjobcentre.gauteng… and https://jobs.gauteng.gov.za/, will go live on June 16, 2023, and will remain open until July 14, 2023.
There will be QR codes displayed at all walk-in centres, and we will be sharing them on our digital platforms which will enable prospective applicants to browse for jobs and apply.
We will be deploying dedicated technical support at all sites to assist any IT related issues.
We are pleased and welcome Vodacom's contribution which will make the Gauteng Jobs Portals zero-rated for its subscribers during the application period. By making the website zero-rated, Vodacom is breaking down barriers and empowering job seekers by eliminating the hurdle of data costs that may have hindered their access to crucial employment opportunities. This act of generosity and social responsibility paves the way for a future where everyone, regardless of economic circumstances, can freely explore and engage with the wealth of available public service job openings.
