Free State Government hosts women’s dialogue as part of Women's Month, 29 Jul

Sixtieth Anniversary of the 1956 women’s march: Build-up activity

The Free State Provincial Government in partnership with the National Department of Women and the Department of Correctional Services Free State will be hosting a women’s dialogue as a build-up activity to the 60th Anniversary of Women’s 1956 March.

The dialogue is between women behind bars pre 1994 and those behind bars in 2016.  The theme for this year’s celebrations is “Her story of Women behind Bars: Pre – 1994 and 2016 Female Bizza Makhathe Shaping the Future”.

Some of the objectives of this year’s 60th Anniversary are to:

  • To remember the history of Women’s struggle in South Africa
  • To honor and celebrate the women of 1956 and the girls, young women of 1976
  • To highlight the beautiful work that women are doing.

Scheduled as follows:

Date: Friday, 29 July 2016
Time: 8h00 – 9h00 registration
Venue: Bizzah Makhethe Centre, Kroonstad Women Prison.

In attendance will be the Minister of Women, Me. Suzan Shabangu, Premier Ace Magashule, MEC’s, Mayors and Councilors, Regional Commissioner of Correctional Services, inmates and some women who were incarcerated at Kroonstad before 1994.

Exhibitions, walk- about Correctional Centre and dialogue will be the program me of the day.
