40 mattresses donated to Siyazama Creche
In the run-up to Mandela Day, the Western Cape MEC for Social Development, Adv. Albert Fritz, visited and donated 40 mattresses to Siyazama Creche in Thembalethu, George.
The visit forms part of the MECial Child & Youth Outreach Programme in the Eden region.
The Western Cape Department of Social Development has invested substantially into the Early Childhood Development (ECD) sector, with well over R290-million allocated for the 2016/17 financial year.
Siyazama is one of the over 1 370 organisations registered with the department under the Children’s Act of 2005 to operate an ECD centre. Registration allows for the department to provide funding and inspections of facilities to ensure compliance on health & safety aspects, as well as the quality of ECD curriculum.
The donation was made possible by the generosity of the local Chinese business community. As the week progresses, MEC Fritz will continue to conduct oversight visits to people and organisations working daily with children and youth.
