MEC Xasa in Sterkspruit to consolidate stability in the area
After a successful engagement with officials from the Provincial Government led by the Department of Cooperative Government and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), stakeholders in Sterkspruit under the banner of the Sterkspruit Civic Association (SCA) agreed to suspend their action for a complete shutdown of the town. The suspension was communicated during a mass meeting last week.
The delegation included officials from the CoGTA, Office of the Premier and Home Affairs whose mandate was to get facts about the protest action to advise political leadership on the best possible solutions.
The complaints included the closure of the Home Affairs offices as well as lack of medicines in the local clinic.
CoGTA MEC Fikile Xasa said some of the complaints from the community have already been resolved including making medicines available as a matter of urgency.
“We are a listening government hence with a view to resolve any outstanding matters which could be a stumbling block to peace and stability. In the final analysis we want to consolidate what has been agreed upon for service delivery to thrive,” said MEC Xasa.
Today’s meeting will be attended by the MECs for the departments of CoGTA and Health Ms Phumza Dyantyi and the Mayor of Joe Gqabi District Municipality Councillor Zibonele Dumzela. The meeting will take place at 11h00 at Bensonville College. Ends.
