2016 Limpopo Provincial Road Safety debate

Members of media are invited to attend Our Provincial Road Safety Debate, Road safety Debates is an annual competition which has been organised under the auspices of the Road Traffic Management Corporation and enjoys the support of all nine provinces.

The Road Safety Debate is aimed at Secondary school learner’s i.e. Secondary school and combined Secondary School learners/FET learners.

  • The competition starts at school level. Each school prepares a team of five learners who will compete at circuit level.
  • Inter circuits - schools within a circuit compete with each other and come up with the best team to compete at the District level.
  • District teams compete to come up with a team to compete at Provincial level for the final stage of the debate in the province.  
  • National - The best five speakers from each province, competes on the national level, representing their province.
  • Outcomes of the project: Road Safety Debates
    • Learners show a critical awareness of road safety issues in their communities.
    • Learners understand and apply the technology process to solve and satisfy needs and wants.
    • Apply a range of technological knowledge in their communities.
  • Learners attain practical research and presentation skills

Road safety debate competitions are aligned to the South African Schools debating board prescripts where the learner’s debate on contemporary Road Safety topics where one team proposes the motion and the other opposes and their arguments in both sides should reveal the magnitude of research done on the topics.

Our province performed outstandingly well during 2014 and 2015 National competitions:

  • PET Rural Category Mbilwi High School obtained 3rd Position Nationally
  • PET Rural Category DZJ Mthebule High School obtained 2nd Position Nationally
  • Debate Rural Category and Urban Category our province obtained 2nd positions Nationally
  • Debate Rural Category and Urban Category our province obtained 1st positions Nationally
