Minister Nathi Mthethwa addresses 19th annual BASA Awards, 19 Sept

Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa will today, 19 September 2016 deliver a keynote address at the 19th annual BASA Awards to be held at Shine Studios, 115 Smit St and Henri Street, Johannesburg.

Hosted annually, the Business and Arts South Africa (BASA) celebrates partnerships between business and the arts and is intended to highlight and acknowledge innovative and successful sponsorship of the arts by the business sector to ensure that the arts in South Africa continue to thrive. It is open to all companies sponsoring arts events, large and small.

Each award category has equal value, and the award itself is an original commissioned artwork. Through its work, Business and Arts South Africa continues to secure the future development of the arts, by facilitating greater involvement of the private sector in the arts.

The government through the Department of Arts and Culture (DAC) strongly believe that the arts have an important contribution to make towards ongoing efforts to grow the economy, create jobs and fight poverty. It is for this reason that the department is engaging various government departments to ensure that the arts, culture and heritage sector is accorded the necessary recognition as a significant contributor to economic growth and job creation.
