“Honour the late Mr Tshwene by internalising the principle of selflessness”, urges Premier Mahumapelo
Premier Supra Obakeng Ramoeletsi Mahumapelo says it is important for leaders in the Bokone Bophirima Province to draw inspiration from the rare attributes the late Boitumelo Tshwene possessed, saying that will help them to successfully deliver on their delegated responsibilities. Mahumapelo said this today, Sunday 18 October while speaking at the Special Provincial Official funeral service of Tshwene (55), who was former MEC for department of Agriculture and Rural Development. The funeral service was held at the Banquet Hall in Klerksdorp.
“Mr Tshwene undertook to make a difference in the lives of Bokone Bophirima people in general, and this was evident during his teaching era and tenure as the MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development.
We need to learn from his personal traits and multiple skills of being humble, selfless, vigilant, energetic, forgiving and respectful, for by so doing, we will deliver successfully on our mandate as public representatives and leaders”, said Premier Mahumapelo.
Speaker after speaker remembered Tshwene as a courageous leader, a disciplinarian who was passionate about education and development, a man with a wonderful sense of humour, and a caring father with a well lived life.
Paying tribute to the late Mr Tshwene, Minister of Sports and Recreation Mr Fikile Mbalula who also attended the funeral, described Tshwene as a true freedom fighter, a revolutionist who led by example, and an all-round cadre who the country is feeling his loss.
Speaking on behalf of the bereaved family, Mr Mathanzima Mweli expressed the family’s gratitude about the honour the President of the Republic of South Africa bestowed upon the deceased by granting him a Special Provincial Official funeral.
“We also deeply thank Premier Mahumapelo and the Bokone Bophirima Provincial Government for undertaking efforts to ensure that Mr Tshwene’s send-off is a dignified and special one. This says to us that our brother’s contribution during the liberation struggle and the role he played in developing our society in this democracy was immense and recognisable”, said Mr Mweli adding that the family and friends are also comforted by the messages and support they’ve received from all structures the late Mr Tshwene served.
Hundreds of mourners from around the Province packed the hall to pay their last respect to Tshwene, amongst them Members of the Executive Council, Mayors, members of the North West Provincial Legislature, former MECs, members of different political organisations and government employees.
Tshwene passed on last Sunday at his home in Klerksdorp after collapsing.
