Gauteng Township Enterprise Hubs (TEHs) to combat youth unemployment
The
first phase of the Gauteng Township Enterprise Hubs (TEHs) is well
underway. On Thursday, 21 June, Premier Nomvula Mokonyane launched one
of the provincial projects in Winterveldt, north of Tshwane. The hub is
aimed at unskilled and semi-skilled youth and is linked to the Rosslyn
automotive sector.
The TEHs are business incubators in six poverty-stricken zones in
Gauteng. These are Sharpeville, Thembisa, Winterveldt, Katlehong,
Kagiso, and Sebokeng. The hubs are aimed at intensifying the fight
against joblessness among young people.
The Hubs will take the form of three different clusters: an Automotive
Hub, an Enterprise Hub, and an Industrial Hub. These hubs will primarily
target the unemployed youth through co-operatives, entrepreneurs, and
Small and medium enterprise (SMEs).
Furthermore, seventeen cooperatives within the surrounding community
will be provided with free training, equipment and support in the
automotive sector.
