Investment in human capital tops Minister Gordhan's Budget 2012
Education,
health and social assistance were the biggest winners when Finance
Minister tabled his R1,1-trillion budget for the 2012 / 2013 financial
year in Parliament on Wednesday.
The Minister announced that
Education has been allocated R207-billion, health gets an additional
R12,3-billion, with an extra R1-billion put aside for piloting the
National Health Insurance.
An amount of R105-billion goes to
social grants, with Old Age pension increasing to R1200, foster care
rising to R770 and child support grant becoming R280. These increases
come into effect on 1 April.
Much of the allocated funds will go towards building or upgrading educational and health infrastructure. Read more
