Government’s anti-poverty strategy is helping to progressively remove obstacles inhibiting access to equal, quality education for all children. Minister of Education Angie Motshekga said in her budget vote speech on 7 May that more than eight million children, in more than 82% of public schools received free education in non-fee paying schools. More good news is that the conditional grant for the National School Nutrition Programme has increased by R266.6 million in 2013/14, to R5.173 billion. It will reach R5.704 billion in 2015/16. The Department will continue to improve access to quality early childhood development. The 2011 monitoring results show SA has improved access from 39.3% in 2002 to 84.8% of Grade ones.
