President Zuma returns from the AU Summit

The Presidency wishes to advise that Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma remains the Minister of Home Affairs until all the requirements and processes relating to the assumption of her new position as a Chairperson of African Union Commission have been completed.

Dr Dlamini Zuma was elected to the position at the 19th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Assembly of Heads of State and Government over the weekend.

President Jacob Zuma, who returned from Ethiopia today, has once again welcomed the election of the Minister and said it should be viewed as confidence in the capabilities of South African leaders.

“We extend our heartiest congratulations once again to the Minister. We will do our best to ensure that the good work that she has done in turning around the Department of Home Affairs is carried forward” said the President.
