President Zuma extends employment of SANDF in MONUSCO

President Jacob Zuma has informed Parliament that, in terms of section 201(2)(c) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996, he has extended the employment of members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) for service in fulfilment of the international obligations of the Republic of South Africa towards the United Nations.

One thousand three hundred and forty five (1345) SANDF members were employed in the Democratic Republic of Congo for the period 1 April 2013 to 31 March 2014 to participate in the United Nations Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) as part of the Force Intervention Brigade (FIB).

Six additional members of the SANDF will be further employed and the total number of the members will now be one thousand three hundred and fifty one (1351). The employment has been extended from 1 April 2014 to 31 March 2015.
