President Jacob Zuma arrives in Mauritania

President Jacob Zuma has today, 4 March 2011, arrived in Nouakchott, Mauritania on a working visit to continue with the discussions for the resolution of the crisis in Cote d' Ivoire.

President Zuma landed from Paris, France, where he had a two-day state visit.

This is President Jacob Zuma's second visit to Mauritania in his capacity as a member of the African Union High-Level Panel which met last month to discuss and find a solution to the crisis in Cote d' Ivoire.

The Panel will discuss the outcome of its visit last month to Cote d' Ivoire where it met both leaders in conflict. 

The High Level Panel was established by the Peace and Security Council of the African Union at the Assembly of Heads of State and Government held in Addis Ababa on 28 January 2011. Other members of the panel are Presidents of Mauritania (Chair) Chad, Tanzania, Burkina Faso and Mauritania.

President Zuma is accompanied by The Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ms Maite Nkoana-Mashabane and the Minister of State Security Mr Siyabonga Cwele, and is expected to return to South Africa tomorrow, 5 March 2011.
