Passing away of Free State MEC Health, Ms Fundiswa Ngubentombi

It is with great sadness that the Free State provincial government confirms that Free State MEC responsible for Health, Ms Fundiswa “Fezi” Ngubentombi and one of her protectors, Sergeant B.C. Motaung, passed away in a motor vehicle accident on the N1 outside Bloemfontein on Saturday, 1 December 2012.

Two other persons, a minor child and a VIP Protector of the SAPS, sustained injuries in the accident. They are in a stable condition in hospital and are expected to make a full recovery.

Prior to being elected to the Free State Provincial Legislature in 2009, she was a teacher in Parys and Sasolburg. Ms Ngubentombi served as a ward councillor from 2003 to 2006 and then as the Executive Mayor of the Metsimaholo Local Municipality from 2006 to 2009. She was a member of the Provincial Executive Committee and Provincial Working Committee of the ANC Free State since 2008 and was also a member of the National Executive Committee of the ANC Women’s League.

Me Fundiswa ‘Fez’i Ngubentombi was married to Zandisile Churchill Ngubentombi and is the mother of five children. She was appointed as the MEC for Health in February 2011 after she served as the MEC for Public Works and Rural Development from 2009. Me Ngubentombi was born in 1965, in the Eastern Cape town of Qumbu, where she matriculated.

The Free State provincial government expresses its condolences to the family, friends, colleagues and comrades of the late Ms Fezi Ngubentombi. Her dedication and commitment to the work of the Free State provincial government will leave a lasting legacy to ensure that a better life is achieved for all.
