Oliphant set to unveil equity report

Labour Minister, Mildred Oliphant, is to launch the 11th Commission for Employment Equity (CEE) report in Cape Town on 3 August reflecting on progress made in this area and to evaluate its effectiveness.

The event will be attended by members of the CEE commission. The report will provide highlights for the period 1 April 2010 to 31 March 2011, the workforce distribution and an analysis of employment equity reports received from employers in October last year.

In terms of the equity law, employers with 150 or more employees (large employers) are required to submit reports on an annual basis and those with fewer than 150 employees are expected to present their reports every two years to the department.

Equity reports have traditionally invited discussion and debate, especially around representativity levels focusing on the top three occupational levels, namely top management, senior management and professionally qualified levels, as this is where designated groups are mostly under-represented. Equally important is the issue of people with disabilities and the employment of women in management positions.

Following the launch, the CEE commissioners are set to embark on a whistle-stop road show to engage stakeholders from business, labour, government and the community.

Members of the media are invited to attend the event.
