North West Exco reshuffle balancing act to jerk-up service delivery

North West Premier Thandi Modise’s major Provincial Executive Council reshuffle announced on Thursday has seen eight MECs being appointed to head different portfolios and improved the 50-50 gender, geographic and party leadership oversight representation.

Speaking at a media briefing soon after the swearing-in ceremony of the new members by Honourable Judge President Monicca Leeuw held at the Garona Building Provincial Government Building in Mmabatho, Premier Modise said the changes were aimed at strengthening good governance, accelerate service delivery, maintain stability and uproot corruption.

The Premier encouraged the new MECs not to spend time on celebrating or being detached from communities.

“The pace of delivery needs to be redoubled as we shed our image of disunity and corruption and reposition ourselves to transforming the socio-economic and political landscape of the province and position it to a centre for excellent and decision makers,” Modise said emphatically.

She said that the challenges that the province is facing are not insurmountable but need urgent and decisive action in the interest of our communities who are growing increasingly impatient.

The three new MECs are former Legislature Deputy Speaker, Motlalepula Rosho who takes over as MEC for Economic Development and Tourism, China Dodovu, Local Government and Traditional Affairs while Nono Baloi goes to Human Settlement department.

In other changes, Paul Sebego is now the new MEC for Finance, Desbo Mohono is taking over Agriculture, Environment Conservation and Rural Development whereas Tebogo Modise goes to Sports Arts and Culture Department.

Louisa Mabe is the New MEC for Education while Raymond Elisha is now the MEC for Public Works Roads and Transport.

Premier Modise dropped three MEC from executive council. Public Works Roads and Transport MEC, Mahlakeng Mahlakeng, Agric MEC Boitumelo Tshwene and Sports MEC, Hlomane Chauke were excluded from Premier Modise’s new Exco.

She retained Mosetsanagape Mokomele-Mothibi as MEC for Social Development and Dr.Magome Masike for the Health department.

The Premier extended her gratitude to the outgoing MECs for the service that they had rendered communities.

“The experience that the three members who did not make it back into the new executive council  gained during their tenure is invaluable and should not be lost to the glorious movement our people and structures of governance. We trust that as disciplined cadres, they will avail themselves to serve in other capacities should the need arise,” she said.

The Premier reassured communities that her administration is committed to clean governance, to fight corruption and maladministration across all departments including municipalities and will not spare any effort but redouble efforts to accelerate the pace of its delivery programmes. She said that the leadership collective in the province owes it to the people to rise above petty squabbles, to serve them selflessly and to defeat the demons of greed and factionalism.
