MEC Nkomo-Ralehoko to hand over a vegetable garden to the community of N12 informal settlement after a dumping site is transformed into a food garden
The MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko will on Thursday, 08 February 2023 officially handover a vegetable garden to the community of N12 informal settlement in Benoni, City of Ekurhuleni.
The vegetable garden comes as a result of a commitment made by MEC Nkomo- Ralehoko in September 2023 to transform a dumping site into a source of food for the local community. This was during an environmental health awareness campaign where the MEC together with the environmental health team embarked on a clean-up campaign. The vegetable garden will contribute in addressing food insecurity and malnutrition for the community of N12 informal settlement.
The Gauteng Department of Health will on the day render a basket of health services to the community including screening for hypertension, diabetes, TB, STIs and HIV, PrEP and PeP services, family planning, Pap smear, treatment of minor ailments and therapeutic services.
