2018 Inkosi Albert Luthuli Oral History programme celebrates centenaries of South African Struggle Icons
The Department of Basic Education in collaboration with the iNkosi Albert Luthuli Foundation, Freedom Park and the Nelson Mandela Foundation will on Saturday 29 September 2018 host the annual iNkosi Albert Luthuli Oral History Competition at Freedom Park in Pretoria.
The iNkosi Albert Luthuli Oral History programme was introduced in 2005 by the then Department of Education in collaboration with the South African History Online (SAHO) with the aim of rekindling a love for History as a subject of choice in Schools.
This year’s programme will celebrate the centenaries of South Africa’s struggle heroes Tata Nelson Mandela and Mama Albertina Sisulu. The programme is open to all high school learners from Grades 8 – 11 as well as educators in the fields of Social Sciences and History. A total of 135 learners and 18 educators across provinces were chosen for the national finals. The National adjudicators select the top three (3) winners per category.
Participating learners and teachers who competed successfully in their provincial elimination rounds will be awarded at a Gala Dinner in celebration of their achievement on Saturday 29 September 2018 at Freedom Park in Pretoria.
