We have learnt with shock of the untimely passing of the renown actor, Tshepo Ngwane.
Brought up in Ermelo in Mpumalanga, he made his way to Johannesburg to embark on and consolidate his acting career.
Tshepo Ngwane was an actor who took his art seriously, immersing himself fully in the characters that he played so well. These convincing portrayals, especially in the roles of Thiza in Yizo Yizo and as Mdu Sibiya in Zone 14, made his performances seem larger than life. These productions reflected an authentic image of township life, captured the lives of young people and articulated the anxieties of people in a democratic society.
His dedication to his acting career demonstrated his love for acting as an art form that speaks to society in profound and life-changing ways.
His acting revealed the truths of the realities of our times and captured the imagination of countless viewers.
He was much loved and much endeared by those who worked with him and will be remembered for his dedication to his art and an enduring passion.
In his life, Ngwane became one of the most recognisable personalities in the entertainment industry. His meteoric rise was propelled by his innate humility.
His sad passing comes at a time when there are growing opportunities for producers, directors and actors through their art to tell the South African story.
It comes at a time when we are seized with finding better ways in which to bring local content to South African audiences.
We shall remember Tshepo Ngwane for excelling in his work in bringing homegrown characters to our television screens.
We convey our heartfelt condolences to all those who admired, loved and cared for him. Our thoughts are with his family and friends, the television industry, as well as well as all his fans.
Let the current generation of actors walk in his footsteps and through their acting enter a dialogue with new audiences, and continue to tell the South African story that Tshepo Ngwane could and did tell so well.
