The Portfolio Committee on Social Development will today visit the offices of the SA Social Security Agency (SASSA) in Kimberley. The Committee is on a week-long oversight visit in the province.
The Chairperson of the Committee, Ms Zoleka Capa, said the visit was crucial and would focus on among others substance abuse in the province, operations at SASSA offices, rehab centres and poverty alleviation programmes.
“Parliament is accountable to the people; they are the ones who sent us there to give them a voice and ensure that their interests are well represented,” Ms Capa said.
The Committee will receive a SASSA briefing at the Northern Cape Legislature before visiting the Tlhokomelo SASSA Local Office.
