Safety in rural areas a focal point for Police Committee
The Portfolio Committee on Police will this Wednesday, 25 February scrutinise plans SAPS has in place to ensure that people in rural areas enjoy the same safety as people living in urban areas.
Committee Chairperson, Mr Francois Beukman, says people in remote areas are usually faced with challenges of response time pertaining to crime incidents. The Committee wants this challenge addressed.
“In as much as we understand the issue of vast distances in these areas and topography challenges, we want SAPS to devise mechanisms to deal with these challenges,” said Mr Beukman.
The Committee will also hear whether the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) has addressed challenges committee members picked up during the tabling of PSIRA’s annual report.
