The Gauteng MEC for Sport Arts, Culture and Recreation, Molebatsi Bopape, has expressed shock at the senseless and horrific killing of Bafana-Bafana and Orlando Pirates captain Senzo Meyiwa.
“Just as the country was mourning the tragic death of one international sport star in Mbuleani Mulaudzi who died last Friday, yet another has died within days thereby sinking us deep into darkness. This isn’t only a loss for Orlando Pirates and the Meyiwa family, but for the entire nation and sports fraternity."
“We have lost a patriot, a committed sportsman who evidently had a bright future on and off the pitch. He played a major role in the recent resurgence of Bafana-Bafana and was always a marvel to watch as he bravely played his heart out and making stupendous saves which saw him elevated to captaincy of the national team. Our deepest condolences go out to the family, football friends and everyone affected by the tragedy,” concluded MEC Bopape.
The MEC will be visiting the family to express her condolences.
