Premier Thandi Modise on provincial tourism investment value in State of the Province Address

North West tourism investment value stands at R10 billion - North West Premier Thandi Modise

The Tourism investment value for the North West Province stands at R10 billion, has contributed about 4% of the provincial gross domestic product (GDP) and generated R2.2 billion during 2012, North West Premier Thandi Modise announced  in her State of the Province Address delivered in the Provincial legislature on Friday.

Premier Modise reported that the province supported 1 144 small. medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs), 81 cooperatives, 40 economic development projects in municipalities and 28 capacity building and interventions.

“One hundred and eighty-three SMMEs benefited from first phase development, capacity building, Market access and exposure to industry in the past financial year.  Women, youth and people with disability were beneficiaries in seventy-three (73) economic development programmes which were rolled out,” Modise said.

The province scooped the 2010/11 Emerging Tourism Entrepreneur of the Year (ETEYA) award.
