Shortage of staff, medical records that often get lost and other problems in Mpumalanga healthcare facilities are some of the problems Public Protector Adv. Thuli Madonsela will bring to the attention of the Provincial Legislature on Thursday in Nelspruit.
The Public Protector will brief the legislature on the complaints she received from various communities in the province during her visit to the province in July. The visit was part of the National Stakeholder Dialogue which aims to strengthen government’s ability to deliver on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) with specific focus on improving health and reducing extreme hunger and poverty.
During her two-day stay in the province, the Public Protector visited Kriel and Nelspruit and conducted unannounced visits at Themba Hospital in Nelspruit and Thubelihle Community Clinic in Kriel.
Prior to the briefing of the legislature, Public Protector Adv. Thuli Madonsela will on Wednesday, have a meeting with communities of Carolina. Communities in the area have sent a memorandum of grievances to the Public Protector complaining about contamination of water in their area and non-availability of land for human settlement among others.
