Media is invited to the first meeting of the Ministerial Committee appointed by Social Development Minister, Ms Bathabile Dlamini, to review the implementation of the White Paper for Social Welfare (1997) and the White Paper itself.
Fifteen years after the adoption of the White Paper as a social welfare policy reform guiding social welfare service delivery, the Department of Social Development has decided to reassess the status of social welfare services in the country.
Among the issues the Ministerial Committee will be required to look into are the fragmentation of policy outputs and outcomes; the status of quality control, monitoring and evaluation systems in the sector; allocation of financial resources for social welfare services; accessibility of services; the implementation of community development strategies; and the diversification of the workforce required to deliver social welfare services.
The members of the Ministerial Committee are Prof Siphiwe Victor Nzimande, Dr Thami Mazwai, Ms Rachel Sempe, Prof Ann Skelton, Prof Leila Patel, Ms Thokozile Gulube, Prof Viviene Taylor, Prof Richard Levin, Prof Jean Triegaardt, Dr Zethu Mkhize, Ms Thembi Ngcobo, Ms Mpule Ivy Sikwane, Mr Hitler Sekitla, Ms S Nkoane and Dr S Magwaza.
