The Department of Local Government will be rolling out Thusong mobiles in communities across the Western Cape throughout this year. From Tuesday, 7 June, until Friday, 10 June, the Department of Local Government will be providing this Mobile Thusong service to residents of Zwelethemba (Worcester) and Rawsonville respectively.
The Mobile Thusong Centres bring national and provincial government services to people who would usually have to travel long distances to access them. Community members can go to the Mobile Thusong to apply for identity documents (IDs), find out about economic opportunities, apply for social grants and get counselling.
The Department of Local Government's Community Development Workers (CDWs) form an integral part in bringing these services to the community by informing them of the dates and venue of the Mobile Thusong.
Minister Bredell emphasised that community members should be encouraged to go to the Mobile Thusongs.
"It is crucial that people know about these services being brought to them but that they also take the initiative to go to the Mobile Thusongs to enquire about their needs. Community members need to take responsibility to find out how government can help them. Local government is most effective when all stakeholders play an active role in their own development," he said.
All media are invited to visit the Mobile Thusongs.
