Eastern Cape Premier, Ms Noxolo Kiviet today, 26 May 2010 expressed heartfelt condolences to the family of Kumkani Lwandile Mathanzima of the Kingdom of Western Tembuland following the passing away of the young monarch on Sunday.

She said: "In him, we have lost a humanitarian who held a beacon of hope for the future world where people would put people first and ubuntu would prevail.

"King Mathanzima dies at a time when the monarchs in the Eastern Cape are beginning to show their character, coming to the fore to work with the provincial government in improving people's lives.

"We are quite certain that the loss of his contribution will be felt across spectrum as he would have ensured that we enjoy fruits of democracy through an open and caring society."

The king will be buried on Saturday, 29 May 2010 at Qamata. The funeral service starts at 09h00.
