First Lady leads women delegation to Ghana

A delegation of businesswomen, mainly from the clothing and textile sector,
led by Mrs Zanele Mbeki and the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Ms
Elizabeth Thabethe will visit Ghana from the 23 to 25 October 2006. Ms Mmbatho
Matiwane, head of the gender and women's empowerment unit in the Department of
Trade and Industry (the dti) will also accompany the delegation.

The purpose of the visit is to promote and grow women entrepreneurship in
Africa among women by:

* encouraging and facilitating business information sharing
* promoting entrepreneurial activities
* facilitating trade and related business linkages.

The ultimate aim is to allow women to interact and exchange ideas in order
to establish business linkages to promote and strengthen their products and
their enterprises.

Gender business linkages between South African Women Entrepreneurs' Network
(SAWEN), South African Women in Dialogue (SAWID) and Ghana Women Entrepreneurs
Association will also be signed to put the relationship between these
organisations on an official footing.

Ten businesswomen from South Africa will participate in the event, while 100
women entrepreneurs will represent Ghana.
