The National Youth Commission (NYC) invites members of the media to the
housing construction project initiative, which involves building of houses for
poor rural communities of the North West Province.
More than 45 staff, including Youth Commissioners, led by the NYC
Chairperson, Jabu Mbalula, will construct houses at the Welgeval village near
Sun City and the Pilanesberg National Park in the Moses Kotane Municipality of
the North West Province from Tuesday to Friday, 28 - 31 March 2006.
The NYC will during the four days be involved in the construction of houses
as part of the National People's Housing Process.
"The NYC's participation in the initiative is driven by the need for youth
involvement in national development through the National Youth Service
Programme. It is through such programmes that youth will be able to
meaningfully participate in community development, nation building programmes
and also develop a strong sense of patriotism towards our country. We hope this
initiative will inspire more youth organisations to develop strong bonds with
their municipalities and start implementing similar initiatives nationwide,"
said NYC Chairperson, Jabu Mbalula.
The award winning housing delivery programme, managed by the Moses Kotane
Local Municipality, has to date trained more than 700 youth who include women
in building and construction skills.
N.B. Interested journalists will be expected to participate in the housing
process. Lead partners, including the NYC and the municipality, will present
tokens of appreciation to all participating newsrooms and freelance
journalists.
