celebrations
26 April 2006
OPERATION EMISA CONTINUES
Roads are anticipated to be busier than usual due to Freedom Day and
Workers' Day celebrations as many people will use the days to break from
work.
Many head on collisions occur as a result of unsafe overtaking and
impatience. It is better to be late than not arriving at all. Motorists and
travellers are advised not try to recover lost time due to delays by speeding
as that will put their lives at great risk.
Road users have a responsibility of giving themselves a chance to live.
Being responsible road users and obeying traffic rules can save lives. South
Africans can no longer bear the trauma experienced by grieving families
resulting from road deaths. We appeal for tolerance and patience on our
roads.
Irresponsible behaviour on the road can lead to loss of life. Always stay
alert, obey all the traffic rules and arrive alive.
The Department of Transport wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday.
Traffic law enforcement authorities will as always intensify their efforts on
our main routes: the N1 north to Polokwane, the N1 south to the Free Sate, the
N2 along the coast connecting to Cape Town and the Eastern Cape, the N3 to
KwaZulu-Natal, the N4 to Nelspruit and other identified hazardous and high
traffic volume carrying roads.
