Trade and Industry to take part in Tourism Indaba 2006, 6 – 9

The dti promotes small businesses at Tourism Indaba 2006

The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) and its agencies will be
participating at the Tourism Indaba, which takes place from 6 until 9 May 2006
at the Durban Exhibition Centre.

The agencies include: Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA), Khula
Enterprise, National Empowerment Fund (NEF), South African Women Empowerment
Network (SAWEN), Technology for Women in Business (TWIB), South Africa
Micro-finance Apex Fund (SAMAF), Companies and Intellectual Property
Registration (CIPRO), the Enterprise Organisation’s Small and Medium Enterprise
Development Programme (SMEDP) and the Black Business Suppliers Development
Programme (BBSDP) will be exhibiting at the Tourism Indaba.

The dti desk at the indaba will provide information and guidance on the dti
services and products available for the tourism industry. Other services
offered by the department at the stand will enable entrepreneurs to track
progress on their grant applications. Information on registration of close
corporations, companies, co-operatives, trademarks, patents, copy right and
design, will also be given.

The dti pavilion at the indaba will feature an investors’ lounge where
project representatives can meet potential investors on a face to face basis.
The Department investors’ lounge will also host an inward buying mission of
selected foreign investors from Spain, Egypt, China, Italy and India.

A brief overview of priority projects will also be provided during the dti
presentation on investment climate for tourism in South Africa. The
presentation will take place on the investment climate for tourism in South
Africa. The presentation will take place on Monday, 8 May 2006 at 15h00 in hall
1ab in the Durban International Convention Centre.

Indaba 2005 regarded as the most successful and productive ever saw a record
number of 10 700 participants. Tourism products and services from over 1 500
companies came together to showcase the best southern African region has to
offer the international tourism trade. Visitor numbers were up by five percent
reflecting the increased interest in doing business with southern Africa.
