Social Security Agency (SASSA)

The MEC for Social Development Toko Xasa will on 11 April 2006 host the
National Chief Executive Officer of the South African Social Security Agency
(SASSA), Mr Fezile Makiwane in East London.
The MEC and the CEO will hold briefing sessions with key stakeholders in the
province including the labour unions on the current state of affairs in
SASSA.
They will also hold a media briefing at the Osner Hotel at 12h30. SASSA has
been assigned a critical mandate to provide an integrated, comprehensive and
people centred Social Security System accessible to all beneficiaries
irrespective of their geographic location. The objective amongst other things
is to redress the imbalances of the past by ensuring beneficiaries received a
professional, timeous and dignified service.
Issues to be addressed:
* Matters affecting the smooth transition to operationalise SASSA the
Region
* Provide an insight towards SASSA readiness
* Update and brief stakeholders on SASSA readiness
* Prepare the region towards the establishment of SASSA
The establishment of SASSA is part of governmentâs plan in fighting poverty
through the provision of a world class social security service.
