Municipality, North West, on a Presidential Imbizo
17 November 2006
President Thabo Mbeki accompanied by the North West Premier, members of the
executive council and senior local government officials will visit the Southern
District Municipality in the North West province as part of the Presidential
Imbizo programme geared towards strengthening municipalities to deliver on
their mandate.
Government regularly holds Izimbizo as part of its drive to promote
interactive governance and provide feedback to South Africans on progress made
in the implementation of its programme of action.
Following the community Imbizo and in line with the objectives of Project
Consolidate (a hands-on local government support programme), the President will
have a meeting with the leadership of the local government and various
stakeholders to discuss the challenges they face and how best to address them.
He will also visit a job creation project in the area and receive feedback from
community members on service delivery.
A programme of events will be circulated in due course.
Members of the media are advised to converge at the Khuma Stadium at 12h00
on the day.
