T Mbeki to visit KwaZulu-Natal as part of Presidential Imbizo Programme,

President Thabo Mbeki to interact with the people of
KwaZulu-Natal

President Thabo Mbeki accompanied by Cabinet Ministers and the Premier of
KwaZulu-Natal Sibusiso Ndebele will tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday, 6 to 7
October, visit Uthukela District Municipality, KwaZulu-Natal as part of the
country-wide Presidential Imbizo Programme intended to strengthen municipal
capacity to deliver on their mandate.

The Presidential Imbizo is part of a number of initiatives within
government's Programme of Action to support local government in delivering on
among others, the Integrated Development Plans (IDPs) and Local Economic
Development (LED) as well as Accelerated and Shared Growth Initiative of South
Africa (AsgiSA)

It also intends to enhance public participation in government's programmes
with the aim to empower and develop communities.

The Imbizo will seek to engage the municipality and stakeholders in growing
the local economy of Uthukela District. The President will interact with local
stakeholders, visit key projects and interact directly with the communities in
the Uthukela District Municipality which includes amongst others Ezakheni,
Ladysmith and Uitvaal in the eMnambithi Local municipality.
