The President of the Republic of South Africa Thabo Mbeki accompanied by
Cabinet Ministers will visit the people of the Eastern Cape on Friday, 10 to
Saturday, 11 August 2007 as part of the Presidential Izimbizo programme.
The visit will take place at Ukhahlamba District Municipalities at Aliwal
North and Ugie, respectively.
This interaction intended to draw people from all parts of the District into
an intimate dialogue with elected representatives on meaningful partnerships
with all sectors of the community and ways of improving the quality of
life.
Over the two days, the President will be joined by the Premier of the
Eastern Cape province Nosimo Balindlela and members of her Provincial
Executive.
The President will assess, jointly with local communities, progress on
commitments made by elected leaders to the people, functionality of government
systems, plans to develop and sustain local economies and the strengthening of
public participation.
During the two day Imbizo, the President will interact with communities and
business leaders in the area, and visit a number of projects that are making a
contribution in the local economy of the District.
The President will also address the women's day event in Aliwal North at the
Sauer Park Stadium on the 9th August 2007 at 14h00. For this event, members of
