President Thabo Mbeki will on Sunday, 9 September 2007 receive the
Confederation of African Football (CAF) Order of Merit Award from Mr Issa
Hayatou, President of CAF at the Drawing Room, Tuynhuys, in Cape Town as a
highlight on the role played by South Africa in unifying the Football
sport.
The event also marks the 50th anniversary of CAF with a series of activities
in 2007 geared to pay tribute to those who played various roles since the
creation of the organisation on 8 February 1957 in Khartoum, Sudan.
President Mbeki will be accompanied by Dr Essop Pahad, Minister in The
Presidency.
