President Mbeki to be received as knight of the Order of St
John

President Thabo Mbeki will on Thursday, 10 May 2007, be admitted to the rank
of knight of the most venerable Order of St John at a rededication ceremony to
be held in Cape Town. The most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John is an
important form of recognition boasting a rich history and tradition.

The President's investiture by the Duke of Gloucester will take place at the
St George's Cathedral in Cape Town. The ceremony will be followed by a banquet
at the Castle at 18h00. Given the focus placed by the international family of
the Order of St John on the betterment of living conditions of poor and
disadvantaged communities, the selection of President Mbeki for this high
honour points to the pivotal role he has played in transforming people's lives
both in South Africa and on the African continent.

As part of the honour, President Mbeki will receive the Cross whose four
arms signify prudence, temperance, justice and fortitude.
